Openchip is looking for a frontend engineer to help design and build the user interface layer of our AI platform, a powerful developer platform for optimizing, deploying, and tracking AI systems. This is a greenfield opportunity to architect and implement a frontend that is far from typical: you’ll be working on data-dense dashboards, in-browser tooling for model configuration, local AI workflows, and interactive visualization of ML pipelines.

You'll help define the structure and patterns of a frontend system built to support everything from efficient model debugging to real-time observability of AI model deployments. Expect to work with advanced technologies like local IndexDB storage, in-browser LLM execution, WebWorkers, React session management tooling for app with complex navigation, and even build UIs capable of canvas-based visual flows chart editors. You’ll shape the frontend platform that sits at the heart of the developer experience across Openchip’s AI infrastructure stack.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement core UI systems for the Openchip AI OS, including internal dashboards, model workflow editors, and developer-facing tools.
  • Design and build a scalable frontend codebase with performance and long-term maintainability in mind.
  • Develop interfaces that support advanced features like session persistence, multi-user state sync, and local model interaction (e.g. WebLLM, WebGPU, IndexedDB caching).
  • Create modular UI components using shadcn/ui, Tailwind, and Framer Motion that are clean, accessible, and highly performant.
  • Implement rich data visualizations, charting, and model inspection tooling.
  • Handle complex navigation, routing, and frontend state orchestration using tools like Zustand, Redux, or modern alternatives.
  • Own the frontend architecture and collaborate with UX, backend, optimization, and platform teams to design interfaces that reflect real-world AI usage patterns.
  • Optimize developer UX - not just for usability, but for clarity, transparency, and extensibility.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience building and maintaining production-grade frontend applications in TypeScript.
  • Deep experience with React, including functional components and state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand,..).
  • Variables with no type make you feel uncomfortable.
  • Deep experience with UI architecture, state management, and scalable component design.
  • Familiarity with advanced frontend concepts such as in-browser data stores (IndexDB), running AI models in-browser, or real-time streaming interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of Tailwind, shadcn, Framer Motion, and component-driven development workflows (experience in similar framework is welcome as well).
  • Experience integrating REST/GraphQL/WebSocket APIs and handling application-wide session, routing, and error management.
  • Exposure to MLOps tooling, dashboards, or data-heavy visualizations is a plus.
  • Bonus: experience with large codebases and long-term frontend platform planning.
  • Bonus: experience with agentic AI frontend.

Soft Skills:

  • Passion for building intuitive, powerful developer-facing interfaces.
  • Deeply thoughtful about architecture, DX, and usability in technical products.
  • Comfortable working closely with backend and infrastructure teams to ensure alignment and integration quality.
  • Bias toward clean code, component reuse, and strong interface conventions.
  • Excited by hard UX problems in the ML tooling space.
