The Role:
The Director of AI Safety at Openchip will be responsible for ensuring that our AI systems are secure, ethical, and aligned with industry safety standards. This role demands a vertically integrated approach, addressing AI security from high-level applications down to low-level implementation. The ideal candidate will lead the development of safety mechanisms, guardrails, and validation frameworks to build trusted AI systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and implement AI safety and security strategies across the Openchip software stack, ensuring compliance with ethical AI principles, security best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of AI guardrails, model validation frameworks, and trustworthiness assessments for AI applications.
- Conduct end-to-end validation and benchmarking of AI models, from application-level integration down to low-level hardware execution.
- Ensure robustness, fairness, and explainability of AI models deployed on Openchip’s platform.
- Work closely with the AI applications, AI agents and AI model optimization teams to embed safety and security into the entire AI lifecycle.
- Drive research and development in AI security mechanisms, including adversarial defenses, secure AI pipelines, and trusted execution environments.
- Showcase the value of the Openchip software stack in terms of safety and trustworthiness to the outside community.
- You will be reporting to the Chief AI & Software Systems Officer within Openchip
Qualifications:
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Proven experience in AI safety, security, or trustworthiness, ideally in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of AI risk assessment, adversarial machine learning, LLM guardrails, and secure AI deployment.
- Familiarity with AI security tools, model evaluation frameworks, and privacy-preserving AI techniques.
- Experience with benchmarking AI performance across software and hardware layers.
- Strong technical knowledge of AI architectures, neural networks, and distributed computing.
Soft Skills:
- Strategic thinker with the ability to define and execute AI safety roadmaps.
- Strong leadership and ability to build and manage a high-performing AI safety team.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams across software, hardware, and business units.
- Effective communicator with the ability to convey AI safety principles to both technical and non-technical audiences.
